The Last Mile Works (TLM Works) is a software development company operating inside San Quentin prison in California. It employs incarcerated programmers and serves clients requiring customized solutions.
Each of the prisoner employees have trained for over a year to earn their position working for TLM Works. The company provides US clients with an alternative to offshore outsourcing.
The goal of TLM Works is to prepare prisoners for employment as programmers upon release from San Quentin. Gaining employment is a major factor in reducing recidivism among ex-prisoners, which in turn improves public safety.
